Basil is very popular and easy to grow. Basil leaves are used in Italian pasta sauce along with oregano. The longer the sauce is simmered, the more flavor is released from the basil leaves. Fresh basil is an important part of the delicious margherita pizza, along with fresh garden tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. Fresh basil can be chopped and incorporated into salads, pastas and vegetable dishes.
Walking inside the chapel brings an immediate sense of peace. Burning candles engraved with pictures of saints accent the small stained glass windows (visitors can purchase these candles at the gift shop); small, simple wooden pews seem to invite humility. The altar is watched over by a statue of the Virgin Mary. You do not have to be of the Catholic faith to appreciate the spiritual aura; it is comforting to people from all walks of life. Sit a while and take in the aura. If there are other people, wait until they filter out. It is an invigorating experience to be alone in this place. If you’re more interested in photo opportunities, there are plenty. Take time to look at the wall plaques representing the Stations of the Cross.
We also bought our gas and had our cars serviced by J.B. Webb at the Esso station. J.B. was our neighbor, and took excellent care of our vehicles. We trusted him. In today’s world where so much of everything is virtual, visit a local, small business retailer this weekend and enjoy the real-time, personal service.
